“The will to win, the desire to succeed, the urge to reach your full potential… these are the keys that will unlock the door to personal excellence. “- Confucius
Desire is what pushes us forward. The desire to achieve something, to make a change, to reach a new potential. Desire is what sparks the fire to achieve something or to learn something new. It’s also a very important component in perseverance. When someone has a real desire to make something happen, then they will persevere despite the hardships. Desire is an important hidden superpower because it’s fuelled by our ‘WHY’. As long as you have your why, you can find desire.
I can’t believe that this article will be 6th one in the series of hidden superpowers. It’s been a while since I was able to post anything but not because I lacked content, but because I lacked time. I shall detail that in a later post. For now, back to our desired topic (see what I did here?)
So what’s your WHY?
I’m gonna be honest with you here. I don’t know what your WHY is. Everyone is different and the things I want are different than the things you want. What I can tell you is how I found my WHY.
It’s all tied in with everything that I’ve been writing about in the past months: self-awareness. This is where it all starts and ends. If you don’t know who you are, what makes your heart beat faster, what you desire most or what feeds your soul, then you can’t find your WHY. My journey started with self-awareness and it’s not to say that it ended.
If you want to read more about my own journey, check out one of my previous blogs. In everything I write I try to pour a bit of myself as well. I don’t want to come across as the perfect human being who has it all figured out. I think self awareness is a constant project which also requires desire. The desire to figure yourself out, get to know more about yourself and above all, achieve your own version of a happy life.
A quick way to find your WHY in life comes from Simon Sinek. He’s definitely one of my soul mates even though he will never know this. His vision of the world matches mine entirely. I’m just too small to reach such an audience as he does. But in his short video he explains how you can quickly find your WHY.

Why is desire important?
I’ve been giving this blog update a long thought because I wasn’t sure of the answers myself. I was able to come up with a list of why is desire important and why it’s also one of our hidden superpowers:
1.No desire = no dreams
Just because you like something doesn’t get you far. I like horses, but that doesn’t mean I will buy one. I like wild cats, but that doesn’t mean I want to share my living room with a tiger. Desire on the other hand, pushes us a lot harder. Desire means sustainable effort to make our dream come true.
2.Find your purpose, find your desire
Above I was talking about your WHY or your purpose because this is very connected to your desire. I have a deep belief that we are born wanting to do something fucking awesome in this life. It doesn’t matter they are big or small, we all have desires. I had the desire to support people and be there for them in a professional way, so I went for it. Just an example.
3.Desire is what hurts your gut
I say it hurts your gut because when you don’t fulfill your desire you get that annoying pain in the stomach. The feeling that you didn’t do what makes you happy. That mix of bitterness, sadness and anger that won’t go away unless you go back to that track.
4.Desire is your compass
Whenever I feel lost in my own life, I try to remind myself of what I truly want. And if I can’t come up with an answer, I sit there and feel uncomfortable until I find my way back. As long as I’m aware of what I want to do, I cannot go wrong. My heart is light and my mind is full of ideas.
5. Desire is what helps us lead a full life
I have met those people who are never happy. They have it all, but they aren’t happy. They want things, but they don’t desire anything. They buy things, get in and out of relationships, change jobs, make more money than they would ever need, have children, raise them, send them out in the world but still no desire. In the end of the day, that’s ok. They simply never dived deep enough into themselves. They didn’t look in the right place, they weren’t uncomfortable enough and they didn’t find desire.
So do you need any more convincing? Desire is such an amazing superpower and I bet you didn’t know you have it. And if you don’t, we can wake it up together!

I like how you talk about the topic of desires. Your blog gives me a new insight about why desires is important.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate your thoughts! I think desires are at the core of who we actually are and even more, they are very close to our inner child. Enjoy reading my blog 🙂
